I feel like we're so far behind the times, not having a blog until now. But here it goes. .
Overall, we had a great Thanksgiving weekend. Driving up was a little daunting. . . our usually 4 1/2 hour trip ended up taking 7 hours. Luckily, Connor and Brielle were great. . Jake and I (ok, well just Jake) were the cranky ones. We realized yet again how much we hate driving in traffic. And I used to think 17th street in Idaho Falls was bad! After we finally arrived in D.C. at my Uncle Glen's house, we had a good time. We overate on Thursday (who didn't?), and than sat around the rest of the time. We actually did do something productive on Friday night, though. The past few years my Aunt Kim has been asked to put together caroling groups for this big tree lighting event they have at the Ritz-Carlton in D.C., and we've been "privileged" to be in it every year. It's fun to get a glimpse of the "other half" every now and then. It reminds us why we're in school - so maybe someday, if we save up for 2 years, we can stay at the Ritz! Jake and I did have a really fun time singing, but were both hoarse afterwards. We were both reminded yet again how much we've lost since our days of high school choirs!
We came back on Saturday (this time the trip only took us 4 hours) and watched the amazing BYU/Utah game with some of our friends (Hardys and Pollies) who were in town. I was starting to get ready for a bad night at the DaBell house due to the impending loss. . .when the miracle happened!! It was fun to watch what I'm sure will be a historic game for BYU. GO COUGARS!!!
So, now we're just counting down the days until we get to go home for Christmas and Ellie's blessing. Jake's very ready to be done with this semester. Poor guy. He's soooo burned out. Come January, though, it's supposed to be the "smooth sailing" part of dental school. We can't wait.
I took the kids to get pictures (again) today. Thank goodness for the patient people at The Picture People!!! Jake and I took the kids to get their pictures last week. Brielle was great, but something freaked Connor out and we couldn't get him to go anywhere near the camera. So, today was a re shoot. Initially it looked like it was going to be a repeat, but we had a great photographer who was very patient (and creative) about getting Connor to let us take his picture. She finally called her mom on the phone and had her pretend to be Mrs. Claus and tell Connor that before he came to see Santa he had to have his picture taken. I'm frankly surprised that it worked, but somehow it did!
For FHE tonight Jake and Connor acted out Samuel the Lamanite preaching on the city wall, complete with towel head coverings and marshmallow throwing (for the stones/arrows). Connor was Samuel at the beginning, but quickly got down off the couch (the city wall) and insisted that he was "Nephi." Really, I think he just wanted to be the one throwing marshmellows! He's so funny. Who needs TV when you have a 2 1/2 year old?
Wow. I'm amazed at how long this entry turned out! Anyway, I'm posting some pictures we took a couple of weeks ago for Christmas cards and the like. Wait- I just realized that Jake's crummy IBM (school issued) laptop is in getting fixed again, so I can't access our pictures until we get it back. I guess you'll just have to wait. I'm sure the suspense is killing you!!
