Movin' on up

Moving day came, ready or not. We got an early start with taking the kids and Grams and Papa to the airport, then we came home and got to work boxing. When it came time to load the truck, we had lots of help from our awesome friends and neighbors:Including Emma, who insisted on taking stuff out to the truck just like her dad
The awesome Elders Quorum Moving Co. Thanks again to everyone who helped!!
We loaded the truck from about 5-9, ate dinner, cleaned, and then collapsed into bed. We finished cleaning the next morning, said goodbye to our friends (that was really hard), and then drove away. It was so weird leaving Chapel Hill knowing that we won't be back for a long time. We've had such a great few years in the south, it was hard to leave!!

The first day of our drive we went to Nashville. It was actually Jake's birthday, but it kind of got overshadowed by the move. We were staying at Jake's brother's house, though, and they got Jake a cake and Spiderman decorations.
Jake was the designated "Birthday Champ." Thanks again for putting that together guys. :)
After Nashville, it was off to Illinois. . . . We tried to take pictures of every state we went through, but a lot of them you couldn't see the picture because of all the bugs on the windshield.
We saw the St. Louis arch from the interstate. . .

And some random piece of farm equipment in Missouri. . .
And then arrived in Nauvoo. We were fortunate enough to find the Willard Richards Inn, which is the actual house that Willard Richards lived in. It was awesome. . . comfortable, historic, and close to everything. If you ever go to Nauvoo, we'd highly recommend it. The owners are fantastic and very knowledgeable about the history of Nauvoo.
This picture and the one below are merely for Cayenne's benefit. I saw these and thought of you. :)

This is the view of the Nauvoo Temple from the front porch of the Inn.
The temple

I saw this sign in the window of a bookshop in Nauvoo. They must have known I was coming!!
The first night we were there, we walked along the "Trail of Hope" on Parley street at dusk. We managed to get this picture of the temple. The stories all along that street were so poignant and really made me appreciate everything the pioneers went through. I think it all hit close to home because we were in the middle of a move ourselves, and we know what a pain moving is even with the use of a moving truck.
This was seriously our room key. How cool is that?!?!
The wide Mississippi

Brigham Young's house (obviously not Brigham Young on the steps)
Jake and I on the temple grounds. We were able to go to a session at the temple - it's beautiful!
Our "Nauvoo Parents," the Perkins from Arizona. We were running up at the same time as them to the Carthage Jail visitors center right before it closed, and after that we just kept seeing them. We ended up eating at the same restaurant for dinner, being right next to them in line for a program that night, and staying at the same place our last night there (we were the only two couples there). The funny thing was that several people asked us if they were our parents. We all had a good laugh. They were great people. Maybe whenever we make it to Kirtland or Palmyra we'll run into them again. . .
After Nauvoo, we had the longest day of driving when we drove from Nauvoo to Denver. Let me just tell you that driving through Kansas is REALLY boring. I've never seen so many straight lines on our GPS. But, we got to Denver, saw my brother Adam, and then stayed with my friend Devony and her family. It was fun to see Denver since that's a place we've wanted to check out as a possible place to set up shop when all is said and done. Thanks for your hospitality, Dev!! Finally getting back into familiar scenery. The Rocky Mountains were fun to drive through after going through Kansas (shudder).
We dove from Denver to Utah on Saturday, stayed the night at Jake's sister's house, and then finished our drive up to Idaho. We both sprinted into the house as soon as we were parked since we were so ready to see our kids. It was fun for Jake and I to be alone (and the kids definitely wouldn't have appreciated the drive), but we missed them. It was nice to get off the interstate and not have to get back on again!!!!
Well, there you have it. The pictures from our trip I'm sure you've all been dying to see!!
