Tiptoe through the tulips. . and other adventures

As you might guess from the title, we've been really enjoying the spring weather lately. We've been spending every possible minute outside eating otter pops, wearing flip-flops, and doing what we can to soak up some rays. The house has been a little neglected these last couple weeks!
Random Ellie pic. Too cute not to post ;).

The prophet said to plant a garden. . . and thanks to our community leaders organizing garden plots, we were able to heed prophetic counsel! You can see the kids above "helping" me prepare our plot for planting. They loved getting to dig in the dirt- there isn't much better when you're a kid!

They were a little too helpful during planting- luckily Jake was there to help herd!

Jake and I did a church cannery assignment for our date on Friday. Nothing says love like tomato sauce and hairnets! We really did have a great time, though, and service always feels good!

On Saturday we headed up to the Skagit County tulip festival. It runs all month long, but due to a cooler spring the tulips weren't really in bloom until this weekend. Apparently Skagit county is home to lots of tulip growers, because there were fields and fields of tulips. Not that I've ever been to Holland, but this is how I imagine it would be. How I wish I had some wooden shoes. . .

They had lots of activities in conjunction with the Tulip Festival, such as the airshow. The kids were fascinated with the planes, but even more fascinated with the model airplanes on display. Ammon must have rubbed off on them after living across the hall from them for so long in Carolina :). They had a 1/4 sized radio control model as part of the airshow that was doing some amazing tricks. Connor decided that he needs to learn how to fly a radio plane. We'll have to work on that.

The tulip fields. It was so cool to be driving around and see a vivid purple, yellow, red, or pink haze over the fields!

Yay! We actually got a cute picture of both the kids looking at the camera!

And a cute one of me and the kids!

And a cute family one! Lest you think this was easy, let me tell you it wasn't. There were many bribes, threats, and tears in the making of these pictures.

As much as he liked the tulips and airplanes, nothing really compares to the coolness of a rock if you're a boy.
We're doing well, otherwise. I'm feeling pretty good- just starting to get a little thick around the middle. Jake loves his residency. Connor loves school, rocks, and Hot Wheels. Ellie loves princesses and her blankie. Life is good.

What a fabulous weekend! Those tulips were gorgeous, and darling family photos.

We're looking forward to next week... there is a place in Holland, Michigan, and they are famous for, yes, you guessed it, a tulip festival!

Don't you just love this time of year?

It looks like you guys are having so much fun. Those are are some cute family photos too! It's amazing to see rows and rows of gorgeous tulips. Maybe we'll have to check out the tulip festival in our neck of the woods.

I'm excited for your garden, and a bit jealous. Keep us posted on the growth.
