Sticks and Stones. . . and Ellie's Bones

Alright, so here's the sticks: For Connor's preschool, we went to the Home Depot. On the first Saturday of every month, they have these really fun FREE workshops for kids. They get their own Home Depot apron, and get to make whatever project Home Depot has. I guess in previous ones they've made piggy banks and race cars. This particular one was planter boxes, which will be fun for this summer.

Getting help from dad
I tried to have Ellie help me make one. she wasn't too interested. At least we got another free planter box!
"Can we be done with the pictures already, Mom?"

And now for the Stones and Bones:

The kids and I were out passing time on the playground on Monday. I was actually supposed to work that night, but had a bad cold and had called out sick. So, there we were on the playground. All of the sudden, I hear Ellie start to scream. I look down, and she had tripped and hit her head on this lovely Rock wall:
She was bleeding pretty bad. Another mom out on the playground had a burp cloth she handed me, so I was holding pressure on Ellie's head. Ellie didn't like that too much. Anyway, the cut wasn't big, but it looked pretty deep and it kept bleeding. Luckily, one of my visiting teachers happened to be out on the playground (yay for visiting teachers!!), and another friend out there who was able to drive me up to the ER with Ellie. Jake was at school, so he came over and met me. Really, for a trip to the ER it went as smoothly as it possibly could have.

Q. How do you know when your mom's an obsessive blogger?

A. When you're bleeding, on the way to the ER, and she takes a picture with her free hand to put on the blog. :)

Us waiting in the peds ER. It had stopped bleeding by then and she was pretty happy. We didn't have to wait too long before we got back. The docs cleaned it out, and decided to put a stitch in it since it was so deep. So, we got to wait for numbing stuff to work. . . . .

Nothing like chicken nuggets in the ER. H-E-A-V-E-N. Still waiting. . .

Ellie keeping herself busy. . . . while we wait. . . .

After about 1 1/2 hours, they came back. Ellie had to be strapped to the papoose board. The stitches themselves didn't bother her, but she hated being restricted!! Throughout the whole thing, she kept looking up at me with the saddest face and asking "All Da?" ("All Done?"). It was heartbreaking, but she only had to get 2 stitches and then we were "All Da." She's doing fine now. She'll have an ugly scar for awhile, but that's just part of childhood. Guess we'll have to postpone those 18 month pictures a few weeks. . . .

Anyway, thanks again to all those wonderful ladies who helped out. You know who you are. :)
